Design-Build Request for Proposals

The current requests for proposals (RFPs) are below with a short description and the due date. Design-build proposals must be received by the date and time according to the selected RFP.

Review the criteria prior to submittal to ensure your firm receives equal consideration in the evaluation. For more information on the RFP process, see the individual RFP.

In order to display and print the RFPs, the Adobe Reader software (version 3.0 or later) must be present on your system. If you do not have a copy on your computer, you will need to download the free software here before working with these files.

This is a one-time process which will then permit you to view and print these and other PDF files from the Web. Follow the installation and browser configuration instructions.

Fall Line Trail – Northern Section (Segment 7C.2 – 7C.4)    

Description: The Fall Line Trail Northern Section project is located in the Town of Ashland, Hanover County and Henrico County, Virginia, and involves the design and construction of the northernmost 4.8 miles of the Fall Line Trail.  The limits of the Project are from approximately 0.2 miles south of Winfrey Road in Henrico County to the existing Trolley Line Trail, which extends approximately 0.46 miles north along Walder Lane to Ashcake Road in the Town of Ashland.  This will be the first VDOT administered section of the 43-mile multiuse bicycling and walking trail from the Town of Ashland to the City of Petersburg.

Furnish Letter of Submittal and Price Proposal to support the design and construction of the Project to include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Survey;
  • Developing and completing the design;
  • Acquiring the necessary environmental permits;
  • Coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR) for Section 106 compliance for the environmental permits;
  • Threatened and Endangered (T&E) Species coordination;
  • Acquiring right of way;
  • Coordinating and performing, or causing to be performed, required utility relocations, additions, and adjustments;
  • Trail design and construction;
  • Bridge design and construction;
  • Guardrail/barrier;
  • Retaining wall(s) design and construction;
  • Signs, sign structures, and foundations;
  • Traffic maintenance and management during all phases of construction;
  • Pavement markers and markings;
  • Storm drainage;
  • Erosion and sediment control;
  • Storm water management facilities;
  • Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) for design and construction;
  • Stakeholder coordination and public outreach; and
  • Overall Project management and coordination with other active construction projects in the vicinity.

I-77 over Route 606 Bridge Replacement 

Description: The Project is to replace the Route I-77 NBL Bridge over Route 606 (Wilderness Road). The project is located at Exit 62 on Interstate 77 near Rocky Gap, Virginia. The total length of the project is approximately 0.303 miles including bridge length. It is anticipated that all approach roadway construction will occur between the diverge lane (gore area) of the exit ramp preceding the structure and the merge lane of the entrance ramp following the structure. No additional roadway or bridge capacity is planned for the project, however, there may be additional bridge width construction required to accommodate phased construction.

I-81 MM 48 Northbound Acceleration Lane Extension 

Description: The Project is located along I-81 northbound in Smyth County, Virginia.  The purpose of the project is to improve safety and operations by extending the existing I-81 Exit 47 northbound on ramp approximately 3,900 feet from MM 48.1 to MM 48.8.  The limits of the Project are from approximately 0.24 miles north of the I-81 NBL bridge over Rifton Dr. (F010) to approximately 0.1 miles south of the I-81 NBL bridge over Hutton Br. (Rte. 689) for a total length of approximately 0.79 miles.
