The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) provides a variety of services to ensure the safety of the traveling public on all state-maintained roads. This includes roadside assistance, road maintenance and a Customer Service Center.

Report unsafe conditions, such as a blind or poorly marked intersection, slick or icy roads to the Customer Service Center at 800-367-7623. TTY users call 711.
VDOT Safety Service Patrol
The Safety Service Patrol is an integral part of the overall traffic incident management strategy. The primary focus of the program is incident management and emergency response.
By reducing the duration of incidents, we minimize traffic congestion at, or near, these scenes. We respond to traffic crashes, debris and disabled vehicles.
One of the duties of Safety Service Patrol staff is to provide short-term traffic control and scene management. This promotes the safe movement of people and commerce, and reduces congestion and delays.
VDOT Road Maintenance
You can place a work request to assist VDOT in maintaining Virginia's roadways. Submit a separate form for each request for:
- Bridge work
- Culvert cleaning
- Curb, gutter or sidewalk repairs
- Dead animal removal
- Ditch cleaning
- Dust control
- Grading
- Gravel / stone placement
- Guard rail replacement
- Mowing
- Pipes
- Pothole filling
- Snow removal

- Debris removal from roadway
