Virtual Design Public Hearing
VDOT posted a notice of willingness to hold a public hearing in September 2020 and received multiple requests for a public hearing.
The public hearing was held as a virtual/online event on December 15, 2020 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. VDOT representatives made a presentation beginning at 4:30 p.m. and were present to answer questions after the presentation. The presentation is available for review. To access the meeting and review meeting materials, click on the link below:

Project Details:
Louisa County applied for funding through the SMART SCALE process to construct a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 522 and Route 208 to improve safety and traffic flow.
A traffic signal is not warranted at the intersection. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) has nine warrants that state transportation agencies use when considering the most appropriate solution for an intersection and before installing a new signal. The intersection has been studied multiple times over the last several years and results have shown that the intersection does not meet the specified warrants and that a roundabout would be a safer alternative.
Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2023.
Documents from the June 2019 citizen information meeting are available at the bottom of this page. (Click on the previous meetings link).
Benefits
A roundabout has been chosen to improve the safety and efficiency of the intersection.
Roundabouts are safer than traffic signals and conventional stop-controlled intersections because traffic can continually and efficiently flow through the intersection. There are fewer conflict points and, since vehicle operating speeds are lower, any crashes tend to be less severe.
Additionally, roundabouts help reduce air pollution and fuel use compared to a signalized intersection due to reduced idling and less acceleration and deceleration.
