Proposed: Route 759 (White Hall Road) over Mechunk Creek
Cost and schedule ►
Public outreach ►
This proposed project will replace the existing structurally deficient Route 759 (White Hall Road) bridge over Mechunk Creek in Fluvanna County. The work involves replacing the sub-structure with wider and longer single-span pre-stressed concrete beams to increase the total bridge width by approximately 7.5 feet. The bridge deck will be replaced along with a new asphalt riding surface.
During construction, a temporary bridge will be in place at Mechunk Creek to provide access between U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) and properties to the north. Access to all properties will be maintained during construction.
The project is expected to be advertised for bids in summer 2026 with construction beginning that fall.
Located approximately 0.3 mile north of U.S. 250, the existing 67-year-old Route 759 bridge is posted with a 10-ton weight limit. According to a 2020 traffic count, the bridge carries approximately 94 vehicles per day.
The design of this project is in compliance with the Stormwater Management Act, stormwater regulations, and the annual stormwater management standards and specifications approved by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. The construction of this project will conform to the national best management practices, VDOT specifications and special provisions, and the Virginia Department of Soil and Water conservation regulations.
Benefits
This project will rehabilitate an existing deficient bridge on a state-maintained roadway that serves as the single access point between U.S. 250 and residences to the north. If not rehabilitated, the existing bridge will continue to deteriorate and would have to eventually be closed to all vehicles.
The new bridge would lift the bridge posting and be open to all legal-weight vehicles.
