In Design: Route 670 Connector Road, Greene County

SMART SCALE Dashboard

Cost and schedule ►

In 2016, Greene County applied for and received SMART SCALE funding (click here for application) to construct a connector road between Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 670 (Preddy Creek Road). The proposed roadway will be two lanes, one in each direction, with 4-foot paved shoulders on each side.

VDOT held a location public hearing for this project on May 21, 2019. The project team presented two potential locations and a no-build option for public feedback. (Public hearing materials are available in the resources section below. Click on previous meetings.)

On Dec. 11, 2019, the Commonwealth Transportation Board approved Alternative B as the location for Route 670 as presented at the public hearing.

Route 670 will be realigned to provide direct access to Route 29. The new two-lane roadway will intersect Route 29 approximately 1,250 feet south of the signalized intersection of Route 607. The estimated construction cost is $3.7 million. The estimated cost for right of way acquisition and utility relocation is $850,000.

The project team will continue working on the project design. A separate Design Public Hearing will be held at a future date.

Benefits

This SMART SCALE project will improve connectivity and accommodate future commercial and residential growth in Greene County. The two-lane connector road will mitigate congestion, reduce delays during peak commuting hours and improve safety.
