In Design: Route 701 (Belle Meade Road), Louisa County
Cost and schedule ►
Public outreach ►
This project will rehabilitate the substandard Route 701 (Belle Meade Road) bridge over Little River in Louisa County. VDOT will replace the existing superstructure, which is posted with a 12-ton weight limit, with concrete slabs and an asphalt riding surface.
The current structure was built in 1985 and currently carries about 700 cars a day. This improvement will not increase capacity.
During construction, Route 701 will be reduced to one lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal at each end of the bridge. Once work is completed, the bridge will be open to all legal-weight vehicles.
This rehabilitation project will be funded through the State of Good Repair program. Construction advertisement is currently scheduled for February 2028.
Benefits
This project will rehabilitate an existing substandard bridge on a state-maintained roadway that serves residential areas, local businesses and industries.
If not rehabilitated, the existing bridge will continue to deteriorate and will eventually have to be closed to traffic.
