This bridge maintenance project will repair multiple bridges in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula by addressing bridge scour. 

Scour is the erosion of soil around a bridge's foundation. 

District Bridge Scour Repair, Set One 

The following bridges in VDOT's Fredericksburg District will also undergo bridge scour repair work in 2022-2023. For the bridges below, this work requires a road closure and detour for an estimated 4-6 weeks. These bridge repairs were advertised as part of an earlier Notice of Willingness public involvement opportunity advertised from April 20-May 5, 2022. Specific work dates for the repair work and these bridge and road closures have not yet been scheduled. Dates will be communicated with area residents and travelers through this project page, message boards placed along the road, news releases, and VDOT social media platforms.

Route 603 (Lombardy Road) over Tastine Creek, King and Queen County Project Complete May 1, 2023

Route 621 (Bruington Road) over Dogwood Fork, King and Queen County, Project will be complete on Monday, Dec. 18

Route 604 (Herring Creek Road) over Herring Creek, King William County, Closing on Monday, Dec. 18

Route 605 (Balls Neck Road) over Mill Creek, Northumberland County Project Complete Feb. 20, 2023

District Bridge Scour Repair, Set Two 

While work is underway, the contractor will either close the road and bridge to through traffic with a posted detour, install a single lane closure, or install a single lane closure with one-way, alternating traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Each bridge repair is estimated to take 4-6 weeks to complete.

Specific dates for road and bridge closures and/or lane closures will be determined once the project is awarded, and a detailed schedule is submitted.

The following bridges are proposed to be repaired with a detour in place:

Route 621 (Bruington Road) over Dickeys Swamp, King and Queen County

Route 601 (Bush Mill Road) over Bush Mill Creek, Northumberland County

The following bridge is proposed to be repaired with a single lane closure in place:

Route 3 (Mary Ball Road) over Camps Prong, Lancaster County

The following bridge is proposed to be repaired with a single lane closure. 

Route 205 (Ridge Road) over Branch of Rosier Creek, Westmoreland County

During construction, Route 205 will be reduced to a single lane, with temporary traffic signals directing one-way, alternating traffic. Specific dates for road and bridge and/or lane closures will be determined once the project is awarded, and a detailed schedule is submitted. Dates will be communicated with area residents and travelers through this project page, message boards placed along the road, news releases, and VDOT social media platforms.
