In Design: Interstate 95 Exit 126 (Spotsylvania) Area Improvements
Cost and schedule ►
Several projects are being bundled together as a single design-build project to widen Route 1 to six lanes near the Interstate 95 Exit 126 interchange in Spotsylvania County. As part of the proposal, the package of projects will include work to add capacity to the entrance ramps from Route 1 northbound and southbound to I-95 to improve capacity, safety and operations near the interchange.
The package of projects will be developed and delivered through a single design-build procurement to streamline construction sequencing and scheduling to minimize travel delays once work begins.
The following improvements are being proposed:
- widen northbound I-95 entrance ramp to two lanes
- build a second northbound Route 1 left turn lane onto northbound I-95
- widen southbound I-95 entrance ramp to two lanes
- add a second left turn lane from southbound Route 1 onto southbound I-95
- add a third through lane for northbound and southbound Route 1 through the I-95 interchange
- install sidewalk along northbound Route 1 near southbound I-95 entrance ramp
The improvements to I-95 northbound will also require the addition of a noise barrier wall along I-95 southbound for a length of approximately 4,700 feet.
