Under Construction: Original I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Bridge Repair Project

Cost and schedule ►

Maintenance work is underway to the original Interstate 95 Northbound bridge over the Rappahannock River, connecting the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County.

Crews will repair the 60-year-old bridge beams, piers and abutments, and resurface the concrete bridge deck that vehicles drive on.

It closed to traffic in Dec. 2022 to facilitate construction for a separate project, the I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing project.

The extensive repairs are expected to be complete by Dec. 2023

Benefits

The bridge rehabilitation project will improve the bridge's structural condition to extend the lifespan of service and build a smoother travel surface for drivers.
