A modular roundabout is proposed to be built at the intersection of Banks Ford Parkway and Celebrate Virginia Parkway in Stafford County.

Proposed Roundabout Design

Modular roundabouts are prefabricated units made from recycled material that make installation easy and quick. VDOT crews are able to bolt down pieces over a period of weeks for each roundabout when compared to the lengthy timeline for a typical roundabout. They also are a lower-cost alternative when compared to the costs and impacts of traditional roundabout construction. In addition to materials being bolted in place, new pavement markings and posted signs direct traffic through the roundabout.

VDOT installed modular roundabouts at several Chesterfield County intersections in 2020. Click here to learn more.

Benefits

  • Reduce the risk of crashes, especially angle crashes. Angle crashes often occur between vehicles traveling straight through an intersection and vehicles making a turn, when the front of a vehicle collides at a right angle with the side of a vehicle.
  • Rapid installation at a lower cost than a traditional roundabout
