Studies: Route 1 STARS Corridor Study, Spotsylvania County
Cost and schedule ►
The Virginia Department of Transportation, in partnership with Spotsylvania County and the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), has completed a study that recommends options to improve the efficiency and safety of the Route 1 corridor from Mine Road to Market Street.
The study was funded as part of VDOT's Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program.

Recommendations were developed to improve intersections on Route 1 in Spotsylvania at four locations:
- Mine Road/Hood Drive
- Business Drive
- Market Street
Targeted improvements initially identified in the study include access management, congestion mitigation measures and innovative intersection concepts.
Benefits
A STARS study identifies smaller transportation projects to ease congestion or improve safety. At the end of the study, the goal is to have several ideas that can be pursued and built as funding becomes available. Spotsylvania County could submit a project application for SMART SCALE funding or revenue-sharing funding, or VDOT could seek federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for qualifying projects.
