Studies: Route 1 STARS Corridor Study, Port Aquia Drive to Austin Run Boulevard
Cost and schedule ►
The Virginia Department of Transportation, in partnership with Stafford County and the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO), has completed a study that recommends options to improve the efficiency and safety of the Route 1 corridor from Port Aquia Drive to Austin Run Boulevard.
The study was funded as part of VDOT's Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program.

Targeted improvements initially identified in the study include access management, congestion mitigation measures and innovative intersection concepts.
Benefits
A STARS study identifies smaller transportation projects to ease congestion or improve safety. At the end of the study, the goal is to have several ideas that can be pursued and built as funding becomes available. Stafford County could submit a project application for SMART SCALE funding or revenue-sharing funding, or VDOT could seek federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funds for qualifying projects.
