Recently Completed: Route 14 Bridge Replacement over Poropotank Creek

Cost and schedule ►

Construction was completed in July 2021 to replace a bridge on Route 14 (Buena Vista Road/Adner Road) at the Gloucester County and King and Queen County line. Route 14 has reopened to through traffic.

Through traffic was detoured for approximately six month while a new bridge was installed over Poropotank Creek.

The new bridge is located on Route 14 approximately one mile west of the intersection with Route 17 (George Washington Memorial Highway).

Benefits

  • Replaces a structurally deficient bridge with a new bridge that meets condition standards
  • Removes the current vehicle weight limit posting, so vehicles of all legal loads can travel over the new bridge

Major Milestones

January 20, 2021: Route 14 closes to through traffic at the Poropotank Creek bridge. Detour signs are unveiled to guide motorists along the detour route using Route 33 and Route 17.

July 2021: The new bridge opens to traffic and Route 14 is reopened to through traffic at Poropotank Creek.
