In Design: Route 208 and Lafayette Boulevard Operational and Multimodal Improvements

SMART SCALE Dashboard

Cost and schedule ►

The project will improve operations, mobility and safety along the Route 208 corridor in Spotsylvania County and Lafayette Boulevard in the City of Fredericksburg.

At the Four Mile Fork intersection, the project will add and extend turn lanes, install new sidewalks, and streetscape improvements. Sidewalk will be installed to connect with existing sidewalk and fill in gaps along Route 1 between Market Street and the Four Mile Fork intersection. It will also install sidewalk along northbound Lafayette Boulevard to Redwood Drive.

As part of the project, additional westbound lanes will be built on Route 208 between Hood Drive and Woodland Drive. Triple left turn lanes will be constructed on northbound Southpoint Parkway at Route 208.

The streetscape improvements include two new bus stops on the FRED Transit bus route. One bus stop will be on the west side of Lafayette Boulevard near Sheetz and one on the east side at the Family Dollar. Additionally, a new commuter bus service will run from the Route 208 commuter Park and Ride Lot on Houser Drive to downtown Fredericksburg Virginia Railway Express (VRE) station. To better serve riders on the new bus route, a new transit shelter will be built at the Route 208 commuter Park and Ride Lot with LED solar lighting, ten bicycle lockers, ten covered bicycle parking spaces, and new signage.
