About the Study
This STARS (Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions) study is assessing operational and safety conditions near the I-264/ Brambleton Avenue interchange to include the intersections of Park Avenue at Brambleton Avenue and Kimball Terrace at Brambleton Avenue.
This study is intended to identify safety and operational improvements in the study area to address existing and forecasted deficiencies.
The I-264/Brambleton Avenue Interchange area currently has congestion during peak periods and has displayed crash issues.
Specifically, the main concern in the study area is congestion on the I-264 westbound off-ramp to Brambleton Avenue northbound in the morning peak hour that causes queues to spill on to I-264.
The improvements being considered include:
- Improved traffic signal timing/operations;
- Modification to the interchange;
- Access management;
- Pedestrian/bicycle facilities; and
- Innovative Intersections.
Public Involvement Opportunities
As a follow up to the first survey and public meeting for this study held in March 2019 to identify the needs of this corridor, VDOT created a second online survey to solicit feedback on the potential solutions developed based on the needs and existing issues identified in the first survey. This second survey was open April 19, 2021 through May 16 and is now closed. Thank you to everyone who shared comments.
