Studies: Halifax Transportation Safety and Operations Study

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is studying ways to improve safety and operations around the Town of Halifax. The study includes US 501 (Main Street/Halifax Road) from L P Bailey Highway to Greens Folly Road, Bethel Road from Howard P Anderson Road to L P Bailey Highway, Mountain Road from Sinai Road to Main Street, Sinai Road, and Greens Folly Road from Sinai Road to Halifax Road.

The purpose of this study is to identify and develop potential transportation improvements within the study area. The study will investigate traffic patterns, bicycle/pedestrian accommodations, existing plans, and community needs when developing recommendations.

The study area includes major corridors that feed into US 501 in the Town of Halifax. The project is bound by Howard P Anderson Road to the northeast, Greens Folly Road to the south, and Sinai Road to the west. Together, the study area corridors are 8.3 miles in length.

Benefits 

A transportation safety and operations study has been requested to identify investment recommendations that will help enhance transportation mode choice, improve traffic flow, and increase safety in the transportation network. The Town of Halifax’s center of activity is on a significant north/south highway (US 501), making the Town an ideal candidate for such a study.
