In Design: Route 29 (Wards Road) and Route 699 (Gladys Road) Intersection Improvement Project
Cost and schedule ►
Public outreach ►
The purpose of this project is to improve safety at US 29 and 699 Intersection by constructing raised islands to create an RCUT at the existing crossover and a right only turning movement for 699 traffic. The project limits are from 0.092 miles south of route 699 to 0.541 miles north of route 699, a distance of 0.633 miles.
The project includes constructing the crossover as shown on the graphic herein, addressing drainage, and removing the existing advanced warning flashers for southbound traffic at the 29/699 intersection and placing them further north.
During construction, flaggers will assist motorists.
Route 29 is classified as a Rural Principle Arterial. In 2021, the Average Daily Traffic (ADT) volume was 17,426 vehicles. In the project Design Year (2047), the estimated ADT is 19,692.
Benefits
Safety will be improved by restricting traffic on Route 699 from crossing Route 29 and heading southbound. The right turn only movement would send that traffic north on 29, then into a protected U-Turn movement (bulb-out), reducing the more severe conflict points at the intersection of Route 29 and Route 699.
