This project will replace the one-lane Springvale Road (Route 674) bridge over Piney Run.

The bridge was built in 1965 and rehabilitated in 2000. It is currently limited to vehicles less than 15 tons and averages about 4,700 vehicles a day based on 2019 data. Several recent short-term improvements include repairing and reinforcing the substructure with transverse and diagonal braces. In the interim, VDOT will continue to monitor the condition of the existing bridge and make repairs until its replacement can be fully developed.

The opening beneath the bridge will also be increased to better withstand flooding.

The project is financed with state funding. Estimated project costs and schedule continue to be developed as the proposed improvements and preliminary design are refined, funding is identified, or additional funding sources become available.

Benefits

The project aims to improve safety.
