Cost and schedule ►
Public outreach ►
This project, in partnership with Fairfax County and Metro, will extend Frontier Drive (Route 2677) from its southern terminus at Franconia-Springfield Parkway (Route 289) to Loisdale Road (Route 789). The project will involve changes in limited access control.
The project includes:
-
A four-lane divided roadway (combination of new construction and improvements to existing Springfield Center Drive) with a shared-use path on both sides.
-
New braided ramps at the Frontier Drive/Franconia-Springfield Parkway interchange
-
A new intersection at Metro Access Road with Frontier Drive
- Reconfigured sections of the Franconia-Springfield Metro station circulatory road and access to parking garage entrances, all existing access points will be maintained
Within the project limits, Frontier Drive averages 28,000 vehicles a day and Franconia-Springfield Parkway averages about 44,000.
Estimated Costs
Preliminary Engineering: $12.6 million
Right of Way Acquisition and Utility Relocation: $42.1 million
Construction: $167 million
Total: $221.7 million
These project costs are subject to change as the project is further developed. The project is partially funded for the preliminary engineering and right of way phases and is financed with federal, state, Fairfax County and Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funding. Additional funding opportunities will be pursued as they become available.
Benefits
