About the Study

This study assessed potential safety and operational improvements along more than two miles of Shreve Road (Route 703) between Route 29 (Lee Highway) and Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County, view the final report.

The study addressed community concerns related to speeding, pedestrian safety and sight distance.

The following priority areas along the corridor were studied:

  • The curve west of Oldewood Drive
  • Shrevewood Elementary School
  • Washington & Old Dominion Trail crossings
  • The curve between Chestnut Street and Hickory Street

Shreve Road averages up to 10,000 vehicles a day within the study limits.

This study does not set construction dates for any of the alternatives. The purpose of this study is to develop proposed improvements that localities can pursue for funding, and to consider including in their comprehensive plans.
