VDOT is seeking feedback on transportation studies assessing potential roadway safety, reliability, and multi-modal improvements.

The studies will evaluate traffic operations and safety conditions and consider a range of improvements that may be developed into applications for transportation funding.

To learn more about the studies and locations in our area, visit the Project Pipeline Website.

VDOT invites residents and travelers to learn more and take an online surveys associated with these studies. Community input received through these surveys will help the study team identify existing issues along the study corridors and develop recommendations for potential improvements that will be evaluated and presented during the next phase of the study, which will include another opportunity for public comment.

The goals of the VDOT Project Pipeline are to:
  • Address statewide VTrans needs
  • Involve planners, traffic engineers, safety engineers, roadway designers and local stakeholders
  • Determine fundable, focused alternatives to address needs
  • Submit solutions for funding (SMART SCALE, etc)

Benefits

Community input received as part of these studies will help further refine and finalize potential improvements. The study partners may consider the recommendations for possible advancement through future local, regional, state and federal transportation funding programs.

Project Pipeline was created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) as a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs including Smart Scale, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.

Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT). The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding.
