This project will repave and add parking spaces and transit facilities to the Waynesboro Town Center Park and Ride facility, located in the southeastern corner of the Interstate 64/Route 340 interchange at Exit 94 in the city of Waynesboro.

Under the current configuration, the unmarked lot has room for approximately 120 personal vehicles. The site has limited lighting and no bus shelter or dedicated bus zone/pull off.

The project will increase the parking capacity to about 175 spaces, and include a bus stop with a covered shelter. The lot will be repaved and will receive improved lighting. Pavement marking will enhance safety for all users, and improve pedestrian access to nearby shopping and dining facilities. Additional amenities include bicycle racks, sidewalks and landscaping. The project also includes infrastructure to accommodate future charging stations for electric vehicles. All improvements will be ADA compliant.

A second entrance with a left-turn lane will improve access to the Park and Ride lot and help reduce congestion on Shenandoah Village Drive and Camden Coyner Lane.

The total cost of this project is estimated at $1.3 million, with $342,000 for preliminary engineering and $1 million for construction.

This project was selected for funding under the SMART SCALE process for prioritizing transportation projects. Click here for more information on the prioritization process as outlined by the Virginia General Assembly.

Benefits
