Welcome to the Transportation Modeling & Accessibility Program site!
The Modeling and Accessibility section provides technical expertise for the Transportation Planning Branch in travel demand modeling (TransCAD/CUBE Voyger), Accessibility, Smart Scale process (congestion mitigation of new or major facility improvement and Accessibility), implement NHTS (national household Transportation Survey) and various big data statistical analysis for model development and NEPA traffic forecasting support.
We provide transportation modeling expertise to the Metropolitan Planning Organizations and municipalities within Virginia. We develop, maintain and update technical modeling tools to facilitate the analysis of the existing transportation system through capacity analysis, multimodal alternatives, land use and transportation interactions, Air quality conformity, EIS/EA support, and project level travel forecasts. Direct the development of complex multimodal travel demand models on local, regional, and statewide basis.
We also provide Accessibility expertise by working on integration of GIS tools and big data technologies into transportation plan development, and technical support on VISSIM model for different project level analysis.
Our Mission
To improve the state of the practice of travel demand modeling in Virginia to support both State and MPO travel demand modeling needs.

Our Models
There are currently 15 Travel Demand Models in Virginia.Hampton-Roads TPO Model, Fredericksburg Area MPO Model, Roanoke-Valley-Alleghany Regional Model,Danville-Pittsylvania MPO Model, Central Virginia MPO (Lynchburg) Model, Harrisonburg-Rockingham MPO Model, Winchester-Frederick County MPO Model,Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro MPO Regonal Model,Richmond-Tri-Cities Regional Model, New River Valley MPO Model, Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Model and Virginia Statewide Model are supported by VDOT. The model of Northern Virginia (MWCOG) model is supported by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments and Bristol model and Kingsport model are supported by the Tennessee Department of Transportation .
