Safety Rest Area:
The New Kent West Safety Rest Area reopened April 26, 2007.
The facility was designed by DJG Inc. and built by David A. Nice Builders Inc., both of Williamsburg.
The $5.06 million project was completed ahead of schedule.
It features 9,000+ square-foot building with restrooms, an indoor vending area and an enclosed lobby.
The facility has a security monitoring system and ample lighting. A children's play area and picnic and pet areas are available, as is travel and traffic information.
It also includes innovative energy and water conservation systems that reduce short- and long-term maintenance and utility costs. It was designed to meet the United States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. Brochure (PDF, 2.25 MB)
The safety rest area is open 24 hours per day, 365 days a year. This facility is open to all vehicles.
