VDOT Software and License Program

Program Overview

The Virginia Department of Transportation will provide Consulting firms, Contractors and Utility companies that have ACTIVE VDOT PROJECTS with the necessary software and licenses to develop Right of Way and Construction Plans.

Currently, the software utilized by the department for designing roadways is GEOPAK V8i (SELECTseries 10) and MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 10). OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition products will become available as projects are upgraded. In addition to the software and licensing VDOT furnishes, Workspaces, Cell Libraries, Resource Files, and an Online CADD manual.

VDOT has an Enterprise License Subscription agreement with Bentley Systems which provides maintenance and licenses for MicroStation, OpenRoads/GEOPAK, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD) Connect Edition products. The CADD Support group provides technical support for these licensed software packages. The software and licensing is available for the duration of each individual active project contract and each license is valid for one year from date of issuance.
