Commonwealth Transportation Board advances Lee County bridge replacement
BRISTOL— At its January meeting, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) advanced a $5.6 million bridge project for Lee County.
A contract totaling $5.6 million was awarded to Elk Knob, Inc. of Pennington Gap, to replace the Route 58 bridge over the Powell River in Lee County, part of the 12-County Bristol District. Completion is expected in spring 2021.
Appointed by the governor, the 17-member CTB establishes the administrative policies for Virginia’s transportation system. The CTB allocates highway funding to specific projects, locates routes and provides funding for airports, seaports and public transportation.
The 12-County VDOT Bristol District includes Lee, Scott, Wise, Dickenson, Russell, Buchanan, Tazewell, Washington, Smyth, Grayson, Wythe and Bland counties. (END)
