ROUTE 53-618 ROUNDABOUT PROJECT BEGINS NEXT WEEK
Drivers should plan extra travel time, expect flagging operations during construction
CULPEPER — Motorists should plan extra travel time as construction of a roundabout begins next week at the intersection of Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) and Route 618 (Lake Monticello Road) in Fluvanna County.
Under a $2.2 million construction contract, Chemung Contracting Corp. will convert the existing “T” intersection to a single-lane roundabout.
Starting March 16, the contractor will begin installing environmental controls and construction signage.
During construction, drivers should expect flagging operations from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Traffic pattern changes are tentatively planned in April, September and October. All traffic pattern changes will be announced.
Construction will be complete by Nov. 17, 2020.
