RT. 647 BRIDGE PROJECT STARTS JAN. 29
South Anna River bridge to be closed to traffic until Sept. 22, 2021

CULPEPER — In late-January, VDOT will close the Route 647 (Harts Mill Road) bridge over the South Anna River in Louisa County for replacement of the superstructure.

The 89-year-old truss bridge, which is considered structurally deficient and has a posted weight limit of 4-tons, will be closed to traffic on Jan. 29.

Under a $698,925 construction contract, VDOT contractor Fairfield-Echols, LLC of Fishersville will replace the truss in kind. The new bridge will be open to all legal-weight vehicles.

During construction, motorists will be detoured via Route 640 (East Old Mountain Road) and Route 522 (Cross County Road).

The bridge will reopen to traffic by Sept. 22.
