VINT HILL ROAD & U.S. 29 IN FAUQUIER CO. OPENS EARLY
Intersection improvements at Route 215 and Lee Highway completed ahead of schedule
CULPEPER — The new and improved intersection of Route 215 (Vint Hill Road) and U.S. 29 (Lee Highway) opened to traffic today. Contractors with the Virginia Department of Transportation completed the project to improve safety and traffic flow just west of the Prince William County line.
Work crews started construction on this $3.3 million Smart Scale project in January of this year with an anticipated completion date of Oct. 10th. Today’s opening comes nearly a month early.
The intersection includes improved traffic signals, and a widened Vint Hill Road to accommodate two new turn lanes for traffic accessing Route 215 from southbound U.S. 29.
According to recent weekday traffic counts, about 48,000 vehicles traveling U.S. 29 cross over the intersection and about 11,000 motorists use Vint Hill Road. Many of them will now be able to benefit from the additional turn lanes.
Updates on Culpeper District activities are on the district’s Facebook page and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTCulp. For questions or to report hazardous road conditions, the public should contact VDOT’s 24-hour Customer Service Center by visiting my.vdot.virginia.gov or calling 800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
