BE ALERT FOR PIPE REPLACEMENT PROJECT IN VISTA WOODS IN STAFFORD COUNTY THIS NOVEMBER
Intensive effort to replace 19 drainage pipes underneath state-maintained roads in subdivision will require daytime lane closures and brief detours on Tuesday, Nov. 12 - Friday, Nov. 22
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Residents and motorists in the Vista Woods subdivision in Stafford County can expect daytime single lane closures and brief detours over two weeks in November to allow crews to replace 19 drainage pipes in the neighborhood ahead of upcoming paving work next year.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are swapping out deteriorated corrugated metal drainage pipes that are original to the neighborhood. Crews will be excavating the existing pipes underneath the road and installing new plastic pipes. These pipe replacements must be accomplished ahead of a community-wide paving of state-maintained roads in Vista Woods scheduled for 2020.
This month, motorists can expect to see crews and equipment at work on numerous roads in Vista Woods from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays beginning Tuesday, Nov. 12. Click here to see a map of pipe replacements in the neighborhood.
Work is anticipated to continue through Friday, Nov. 22, weather permitting. If additional work dates are needed, they will be scheduled to avoid the Thanksgiving holiday. No lane closures or detours will occur from Wednesday, Nov. 27 through Sunday, Dec. 1.
Access to all driveways will be maintained during this project. Crews will hand-deliver notices to residents the day before work is scheduled to begin on their street. Message boards posted at entrances to the neighborhood will alert travelers to this maintenance work. Motorists should follow direction from crews flagging one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone, or follow temporary detour signs.
“We appreciate the patience of residents and motorists in Vista Woods as we make a concentrated effort to replace the majority of drainage pipes in their neighborhood,” said Lynne Keenan, VDOT Fredericksburg Residency Administrator. “Finishing this work in November, while temperatures remain warm enough for paving, will let us cover the disturbed area of road with asphalt patches, which means a smoother and more durable temporary surface over the winter. We then look forward to returning in 2020 to pave the neighborhood after these drainage improvements are complete.”
Following VDOT’s pipe replacement effort with state crews, contractor crews will finish the remaining 11 pipe locations in Vista Woods that require extensive excavation and hired equipment due to their size.
