MILLING AND PAVING WORK WILL BEGIN THIS WEEK ON ROUTE 3 IN MATHEWS AND MIDDLESEX
Drivers should expect daytime delays on Route 3 between Route 33 and Route 198, near the Twigg Bridge over the Piankatank River, for approximately two weeks
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Beginning Thursday, June 6, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin milling and paving Route 3 on several sections between Route 33 and Route 198, near the John Andrew Twigg Bridge.
The Twigg Bridge crosses the Piankatank River and connects Middlesex and Mathews counties.
Drivers can expect a single lane closure on Route 3 from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7, and again next week on Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14. Flaggers will be used to direct one-way, alternating traffic through the work zone. No work is expected to take place on Saturday or Sunday, and paving is anticipated to be complete on June 14, weather permitting.
Motorists should expect a rough driving surface in the work zone during the milling operation.
Crews are not milling and paving on the Twigg Bridge. Resurfacing work will be underway on a 3.2-mile section of Route 3 in Middlesex between the bridge and Route 33, and on a section slightly less than one mile between the bridge and Dixie Drive in Mathews.
Work will begin in Mathews, and will progress north on Route 3 toward the Route 33 intersection.
