NUMEROUS I-95 WORK ZONES THIS WEEK IN THE FREDERICKSBURG AREA
Expect daytime lane closures on I-95 northbound and overnight lane closures on I-95 southbound with various construction activities for Improve95 projects and maintenance work

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Drivers should anticipate daytime and overnight work zones on Interstate 95 northbound and southbound in the Fredericksburg area with various construction activities and preliminary engineering work for several Improve95 projects.

Weather permitting, the following lane closures are scheduled starting today, March 18 through early Saturday, March 23: 

I-95 Northbound 

Exit 118 (Mudd Tavern Road/Spotsylvania) 

  • Monday – Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near the Exit 118 interchange for construction activities for the Mudd Tavern Road overpass replacement and interchange improvement project. 

Near Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) to Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway/Stafford County) 

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.  

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound at mile marker 129, near Exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg, and continuing on to Exit 136/Centreport Parkway. Construction activities continue for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project and preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Northbound Rappahannock River Crossing. 

Exit 133 (Route 17/Falmouth) 

  • Monday – Thursday, 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. 

Expect a single left lane closure on I-95 northbound near Exit 133 in Stafford. Expect heavy truck traffic between mile markers 132 and 134 during the day. Be alert to trucks slowing down to enter or exit the median at various construction entrances throughout the work zone. Work zone is for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing and preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

Near Stafford County and Prince William County line and Exit 148 (Quantico) 

  • Monday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.  

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 northbound near the Stafford County and Prince William County line and Exit 148 (Quantico) for preliminary engineering work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

I-95 Southbound 

Exit 148 (Quantico) to Stafford County Line 

  • Monday – Thursday, 9:30m. – 10 a.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound between Exit 148/Quantico to the Stafford County line for geotechnical boring work for the future I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

Near Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) and South of Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) 

  • Monday – Thursday, 9m. – 10 a.m.
  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Friday Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m.

Expect alternating single lane closures up to two miles at a time for a mobile operation near Exit 143 (Garrisonville Road) and south of Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) in Stafford County for geotechnical boring work for the future Interstate 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project. 

Near Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) to Exit 130 (Route 3/Fredericksburg) 

  • Monday– Thursday, 9m. – 10 a.m. 
  • Thursday – Friday, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Friday – Saturday, 10 p.m. – 7 a.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound from mile marker 135, just south of Exit 136/Centreport Parkway in Stafford to Exit 130 at Route 3 in Fredericksburg for construction activities for the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project. 

South of Exit 126 (Route 1/Massaponax) to South of Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg)

  • Monday, 9m. – 2:30 p.m. south of Exit 126 at mile marker 125
  • Tuesday, 9m. – 2:30 p.m. in between Exit 126 and Exit 118 at mile marker 122
  • Wednesday, 9m. – 2:30 p.m. near the Exit 118 interchange

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound at these locations to allow crews to repair and install new guardrail. 

Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County

  • Monday – Tuesday, 9m. – 2:30 p.m. 

Expect a single lane closure on I-95 southbound at Exit 118 (Route 606/Thornburg) for construction activities for the Mudd Tavern Road overpass replacement and interchange improvement project. 

Message boards will warn drivers to stay alert for the work zones ahead and possible delays.
