FREDERICKSBURG – The public is invited to learn more about a project to widen Route 620 (Harrison Road) to four lanes between Route 627 (Gordon Road) and Route 610 (Old Plank Road) in Spotsylvania County, and to provide comment on the proposed design. 

A design public hearing will be held:

This public hearing was originally scheduled for Oct. 24, 2019. The hearing has been rescheduled for Oct. 29, 2019.

Stop by the public hearing anytime between 5-7 p.m. to review displays and proposed design plans, and discuss questions with Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff. The meeting will be an open house format, with no formal presentation delivered.

Written and oral comments on the project will be accepted at the public meeting, and afterward through Friday, Nov. 8, 2019.

Project Background 

This $11.2 million project will widen Harrison Road from two lanes to four lanes between Old Plank Road and Gordon Road. It is a revenue-sharing project, with funds from Spotsylvania County being matched with state dollars. 

A center turn lane will be built along this widened section of Harrison Road. Additional turn lanes will be built at the intersection with Old Plank Road and Gordon Road. 

Sidewalk will be built along this widened section of Harrison Road, and pedestrian crossings will be added at the intersections with Old Plank Road and Gordon Road. The widened section of Harrison Road will have curb and gutter. 

Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2024 and conclude in fall 2025.
