ROUTE 612 (LILY POND ROAD/BESTLAND ROAD) WILL BE CLOSED AT DRAGON SWAMP BEGINNING MONDAY, OCT. 7
Drivers urged to use recommended 8-mile detour or the most convenient alternate route during bridge repairs and maintenance
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Beginning at 7 a.m., Monday, Oct. 7, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close a portion of Route 612 (Lily Pond Road/Bestland Road) at the bridge over Dragon Swamp for repairs and maintenance work.
The bridge, which is located at the King and Queen and Essex county line, will remain closed to traffic until Friday, Oct. 11, while crews make repairs to the bridge as recommended by a recent safety inspection.
VDOT recommends that local drivers use Route 607 (Jones Bridge Road/Princes Road) and Route 617 (Providence Road) as a detour around the work zone. The recommended detour is approximately 8.6 miles.
The original structure over Dragon Swamp was built in 1972 and underwent a superstructure replacement in July 2014.
A recent VDOT traffic count indicates that approximately 90 vehicles use the bridge each day.
Work is expected to be complete and the road reopened to traffic by 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 11.
