TWO FULL TRAFFIC STOPS ON ROUTE 1 AT HOSPITAL CENTER BOULEVARD IN STAFFORD COUNTY OVERNIGHT THURSDAY
All Route 1 traffic will be stopped for two 15-minute intervals at the intersection between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. to install new traffic signal equipment
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has scheduled two full traffic stops on Route 1 at Hospital Center Boulevard in Stafford County for traffic signal work as part of the Courthouse Road widening project.
Weather permitting, all traffic on Route 1 at Hospital Center Boulevard will be stopped in two 15-minute intervals between 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 and 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8.
Traffic will be allowed to clear in between each 15-minute interval.
Message boards will provide advance notice of the traffic stops and delays.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control at the intersection.
Route 1 travelers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route to avoid delays.
The full traffic stops are needed to allow crews to install new, upgraded traffic signal equipment at the Route 1 and Hospital Center Boulevard intersection. This equipment will enable the extended section of Hospital Center Boulevard, west of Route 1, to coordinate with the new diverging diamond interchange at Exit 140 on Interstate 95.
Project Background
Construction on the $195 million combined Courthouse Road widening and Exit 140 interchange project began in July 2017, and all work will be finished by July 31, 2020.
As construction continues this fall, drivers should be alert for traffic shifts and temporary traffic patterns along the Courthouse Road corridor. Courthouse Road will remain two lanes during construction. Eastbound and westbound traffic may be split to the outside lanes at times to allow crews to work in the median.
