VDOT TO INSTALL NEW SPEED LIMIT SIGNS AT TWO LOCATIONS ON ROUTE 207 IN CAROLINE COUNTY ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19
Afternoon drivers should be alert to the new posted speed limit

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – On Wednesday, June 19, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will install new speed limit signs at two locations on Route 207 in Caroline County.

Afternoon drivers on Route 207 should be alert to the new signs that will increase the speed limit from 55 mph to 60 mph on Route 207 at the following locations:

  • From .25 miles north of Route 676 to .25 miles south of Route 722
  • From .25 miles north of Route 684 to .25 miles south of Route 601

The new speed limit signs will be installed along the shoulder at each location on Route 207 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  All travel lanes will remain open in the work zone.

In the event of inclement weather, the sign installation will take place on Thursday, June 20.

Background

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) conducted a study of this segment of Route 207 following legislation passed by the Virginia General Assembly in 2018. Following VDOT’s review, this section of Route 207 was recommended to have its speed limit increased to 60 mph. The Caroline County Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution endorsing the increased speed limit at this location.
