FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: ROADS MOSTLY CLEAR, BUT STAY ALERT FOR ICY CONDITIONS FRIDAY MORNING
VDOT crews have plowed, treated roads overnight, but motorists should plan to use caution due to the potential for icy patches
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Motorists will encounter clear roads throughout most of the Fredericksburg District this morning, but travelers are encouraged to use additional caution and be alert for isolated slick spots, even on treated roads.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews worked overnight to plow roads as necessary in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula, and to treat roads for any slick or hazardous conditions. VDOT crews continue to patrol and treat roads this morning to address any icing, especially on surfaces most likely to freeze, such as ramps, bridges and overpasses.
While primary roads are clear in Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties, drivers in these locations may see a mix of bare pavement and isolated patches of snow on secondary roads.
With temperatures not expected to rise above freezing until later Friday morning, motorists are urged to proceed cautiously.
Allow extra travel time to reach your destination. Plan to reduce your speed and increase following distance between vehicles. Wear your seat belt. Use additional caution while traveling on bridges, ramps and overpasses, which freeze first due to lower surface temperatures, as well as on roads carrying lighter traffic volumes.
