FULL TRAFFIC STOPS ON I-95 NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND OVERNIGHT IN STAFFORD COUNTY
All interstate traffic will be stopped in 15-minute intervals starting early tomorrow, Oct. 29 for utility work near the American Legion Road overpass
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Interstate 95 travelers can expect overnight delays with intermittent full traffic stops needed for utility work near the American Legion Road overpass in Stafford County.
As part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project, Dominion Energy needs to remove existing power lines across all interstate travel lanes and install multiple new power lines ahead of the American Legion Road bridge replacement project.
The American Legion Road overpass is located at mile marker 138, which is between Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway) and Exit 140 (Courthouse Road).
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, Oct. 28, crews will have alternating, single lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound near the American Legion Road bridge to prepare for the full traffic stops.
All interstate traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight tomorrow, Oct. 29 to 4 a.m.
Each stop may last up to 15 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop.
Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control.
Weather permitting, the following lane closures and stoppages have been scheduled on I-95 northbound and southbound between Exit 136 and Exit 140:
Wednesday, Oct. 28 – Thursday, Oct. 29
- 10 p.m. – 11:59 p.m. – Alternating, single lane closures
- Midnight – 4 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 15 minutes
- 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open
Project Background
Crews are currently building a 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17).
The I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project is replacing the Truslow Road and the American Legion Road overpasses to accommodate construction of two new reversible Express Lanes in the median.
The Truslow Road bridge is currently under construction and located at mile marker 134, which is between Exit 133 (Route 17) and Exit 136 (Centreport Parkway).
Truslow Road closed to through traffic for overpass construction on Jan. 27, 2020, and was estimated to reopen to traffic in fall 2020. The schedule has been extended, with the road now anticipated to open in winter 2020-early 2021.
American Legion Road will not close for construction until Truslow Road is open.
The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022.
