FULL TRAFFIC STOPS SCHEDULED OVERNIGHT FOR I-95 NORTHBOUND IN STAFFORD COUNTY
All I-95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. early Thursday, July 30 to remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17)

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. All Interstate 95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. early Thursday, July 30 to allow crews to remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County.

Overnight travelers should anticipate delays with I-95 northbound being reduced to one lane near Exit 133 starting at 10 p.m. tonight, July 29, to allow crews to prepare for the full traffic stops.

Crews need to remove the overhead sign as construction continues on a new overpass for Route 652 (Truslow Road) as part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project.

Traffic may be stopped for up to 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop.

Lane closures on I-95 northbound are scheduled at the following times:

Wednesday, July 29 – Thursday, July 30

  • 10 p.m. – 4:30 a.m. – Double lane closure
  • Midnight to 3 a.m. – Intermittent full traffic stops up to 30 minutes
  • 4:30 a.m. – All lanes open

Message boards will be posted along I-95 northbound to alert motorists to delays ahead.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.

Project Background

The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022. All work related to the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
