I-95 NORTHBOUND FULL TRAFFIC STOPS RESCHEDULED IN STAFFORD COUNTY
All I-95 northbound traffic will now be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14 as crews remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17) in Stafford County

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.  Due to inclement weather forecast for this evening and early Thursday morning, overnight full traffic stops on Interstate 95 northbound in Stafford County have been rescheduled for early Friday morning.

All Interstate 95 northbound traffic will be stopped intermittently between midnight and 3 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, to allow crews to remove an overhead sign north of Exit 133 (Route 17).

Northbound traffic may be stopped for up to 30 minutes at a time. In between each stop, congestion will be allowed to clear before the next full stop.

Northbound travelers should anticipate delays starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, when I-95 northbound is reduced to a single lane near Exit 133 as crews prepare for the full traffic stops.

The overhead sign is being removed in connection with construction of a new interstate overpass on Route 652 (Truslow Road), which is part of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project

All northbound travel lanes will reopen by 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Message boards will alert I-95 northbound motorists to delays ahead.

Virginia State Police will assist with traffic control in the work zone.

If the sign removal is cancelled this Thursday evening and Friday morning, it will be rescheduled to occur overnight on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18 and early Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Project Background

Crews are currently building the 10-mile extension of the I-95 Express Lanes in the median of I-95 from south of Exit 143 (Route 610) to the vicinity of Exit 133 (Route 17). Construction on the $565 million project began in July 2019.

The extended Express Lanes are anticipated to open to traffic in late 2022. All work related to the project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

Transurban, the operator of the existing 95 Express Lanes facility, is managing construction of the I-95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension. The design-build project contractor is a joint venture between Branch Civil and Flatiron.
