PAVING WORK BEGINS TODAY IN MATHEWS COUNTY
Road resurfacing is starting to improve the ride on Main Street, Route 14, Route 198 (Buckley Hall Road) and Route 611 (Tabernacle Road)
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is beginning road resurfacing work this week to improve the ride on several major routes in Mathews County, including on Main Street.
Roads to be resurfaced include Main Street in the historic Mathews Courthouse area, portions of Route 14 and Route198 (Buckley Hall Road), and Route 611 (Tabernacle Road).
Work will be underway during daytime and overnight hours, depending on the location.
Daytime milling and paving work is currently underway on Buckley Hall Road between Route 14 and just south of Critter Lane. Motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic in this work zone on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Once this portion of Route 198 is resurfaced, crews anticipate moving to the remaining routes, which will be paved during overnight hours.
Once work begins on Main Street, Route 14 and Route 611, motorists can expect one-way, alternating traffic in the work zone on Sunday through Thursday evenings, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Weekly updates on lane closures for this resurfacing work will be included in VDOT Fredericksburg District’s list of upcoming lane closures. This list is published every Friday and posted to VDOT’s website, VirginiaDOT.org, under Travel Center.
Travelers may encounter brief delays and a rough driving surface in the work zone during the milling phase of the project.
The project contractor is Branscome Paving Company.
