ROUTE 30 AND ROUTE 360 INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT STARTS THIS WEEK
Construction at the King William County intersection to add turn lanes to enhance safety and reduce delays will start Thursday, July 9
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin construction this week to improve the Route 30 and Route 360 intersection in King William County.
Work will begin on Thursday, July 9 to expand turn lane capacity to enhance safety and reduce delays at the intersection.
The $1.4 million SMART SCALE project will include the construction of a dedicated right, left and through turn lanes for eastbound Route 30 and modify existing turn lanes on Route 360.
A sidewalk will also be built along the south side of Route 30 to cross Route 360 for pedestrians and bicyclists. In addition, a sewer force main, curb and gutter will also be installed to improve drainage in the area.
Existing traffic signal equipment will be upgraded to accommodate the additional turn lanes.
Crews will be working Mondays through Fridays. All travel lanes will be open during peak morning and afternoon hours on weekdays. Single lane closures will be scheduled during daytime and overnight hours. Periodic weekend work may also be needed.
The intersection improvement project is anticipated to be complete in June 2021.
The project contractor is Howard Brothers Contractor, Inc., of Charles County.

Project Background
King William County submitted an application to build this project through Virginia’s SMART SCALE transportation funding program.
SMART SCALE was established to choose the right transportation projects for funding and ensure the best use of limited tax dollars. Potential projects that have been determined to meet a need identified in VTrans – the state’s long-range multi-modal transportation plan – are scored based on safety, congestion, accessibility, land use, economic development and the environment.
Once projects are scored and prioritized, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) has the best information possible to select projects for funding.
