Drivers will be detoured 5 miles around the closure; Work is expected to be complete in approximately three months, weather permitting
UPDATE: Due to inclement weather on Monday, Nov. 30, the closure of Route 677 (Camp Road) in Caroline County has been postponed to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Route 677 (Camp Road) at the bridge over Herring Creek in Caroline County on Monday, Nov. 30, to replace two large drainage pipes with a slightly larger concrete box culvert.
Camp Road will be closed to traffic between Route 694 (Courtney Road) and Route 693 (Herring Creek Road) for approximately three months. During construction, drivers will be detoured 5 miles around the closure.
Signs will be posted along the recommended detour route:
- Route 694 (Courtney Road)
- Route 601 (Edgar Road)
- Route 693 (Herring Creek Road)
VDOT will replace two deteriorated 5-foot concrete pipes installed in 1964 with a single 8-foot by 6-foot concrete box culvert. The larger box culvert will improve drainage on Camp Road.
Weather permitting, construction is estimated to be complete in approximately 12 weeks and Camp Road will road reopen to traffic in early 2021.
According to a VDOT traffic count, approximately 58 vehicles a day travel this portion of Camp Road.
