ROUTE 207 SOUTHBOUND DETOUR IN CAROLINE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 16
Southbound traffic will be briefly detoured onto Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) through Milford to allow crews to pave a deteriorated section of pavement in construction work zone

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 207 (Rogers Clark Boulevard) southbound traffic in Caroline County will be briefly detoured onto Route 722 (Nelson Hill Road) during daytime hours on Tuesday, March 16, to allow crews to pave a section of deteriorated pavement in a construction work zone.

Route 207 southbound traffic will be detoured between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting. Northbound Route 207 traffic will not be detoured.

Signs will direct southbound motorists to follow Nelson Hill Road, which reconnects with Route 207.

Contractor crews will be milling and paving a deteriorated section of Route 207 pavement near a bridge replacement work zone. Scheduling this paving operation during daytime hours allows crews to apply asphalt during warmer temperatures.

Route 207 currently is reduced to a single northbound and southbound lane at the bridge over the Mattaponi River in Caroline. Traffic is traveling in the northbound lanes while the southbound bridge is closed for a $7.9 million replacement project. The previous bridge was built in 1957 and was structurally deficient, indicating it needed rehabilitation or replacement to improve its condition. The project is installing a new concrete bridge on steel beams.

The new southbound bridge is anticipated to open to traffic in Sept. 2021. The project contractor is Corman Kokosing Construction Company.
