MAJOR IMPROVE 95 CONSTRUCTION WILL CAUSE SIGNIFICANT OVERNIGHT DELAYS
I-95 northbound and southbound will be reduced to one lane in the Fredericksburg area with multiple work zones each evening this week
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Various construction and maintenance projects on Interstate 95 will cause significant overnight delays in the Fredericksburg area.
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) encourages travelers to plan ahead with multiple work zones, which will reduce both I-95 northbound and southbound to one lane near several interchanges between exit 118 (Thornburg) in Spotsylvania County to exit 148 (Quantico) in Stafford County.
Crews with the 95 Express Lanes Fredericksburg Extension project will continue lifting and installing bridge beams for the future access point to the Express Lanes at the exit 148 interchange. The bridge beam installation will affect the Express Lanes facility and general purpose lanes near the exit 148 interchange.
Bridge construction, maintenance and safety inspections will also require double lane and ramp closures of I-95, along with final paving activities as part of the I-95 Southbound Rappahannock River Crossing project near exit 130 (Route 3) in Fredericksburg.
Overnight travelers with destinations outside of the Fredericksburg area should consider using alternate routes to avoid major delays.
Motorists can check 511Virginia.org before starting their trip to find real-time updates on work zones and traffic conditions.
