FREDERICKSBURG DISTRICT: VDOT PREPARING FOR POTENTIAL WINTRY MIX SUNDAY MORNING
Trucks will be staged along I-95 in the Fredericksburg area to address any slick spots that may develop, especially on bridges, ramps and overpasses
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Mixed precipitation is forecast for the Fredericksburg area on Sunday morning, with the potential for light sleet, snow and rain starting before sunrise.
Although accumulation is not anticipated on pavement, slick surfaces may develop on elevated surfaces, such as ramps, bridges and overpasses.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews will be staged early Sunday along Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg area to monitor for any hazardous road conditions that may develop once precipitation begins. Crews will apply treatment materials as needed to address icing.
Heavy rain is anticipated in the Fredericksburg area, Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula during Sunday afternoon and evening. In coastal areas along the Northern and Middle Peninsula, minor flooding and gusting winds above 30 mph are possible.
Travelers should check 511Virginia for road conditions along their entire route before beginning a trip. Road conditions west of the Fredericksburg area may be more severe, with additional winter precipitation forecast along and west of the Blue Ridge.
To report a downed tree, debris, or other road hazard, contact VDOT's Customer Service Center 24 hours a day at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623) or online at my.vdot.virginia.gov.
