I-95 NORTHBOUND CLOSED IN STAFFORD AT EXIT 140 (COURTHOUSE ROAD)
All lanes are closed for a tractor-trailer fire
UPDATE (6:50 a.m.) The left lane of Interstate 95 northbound has reopened near exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County. Two northbound lanes remain closed following an earlier tractor-trailer crash and fire. Updates on the reopening of travel lanes for this incident will be available on 511Virginia.
UPDATE (5:26 a.m.) Northbound Interstate 95 remains closed at exit 140 (Courthouse Road) in Stafford County for a tractor-trailer fire.
Northbound I-95 travelers detour at exit 140 (Courthouse Road). Traffic can use eastbound Courthouse Road/Hospital Center Boulevard to Route 1 northbound, and re-enter I-95 northbound at exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville). Traffic signal timing has been adjusted for heavier traffic volumes on Route 1 northbound and at other affected intersections. The on-ramp from Courthouse Road to I-95 northbound remains open, since it enters the interstate north of the closure location. Northbound delays begin around 3 miles before exit 140 (Courthouse Road).

I-95 northbound travelers are encouraged to seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
Around 2 miles of northbound congestion exists approaching the crash scene.
At this time, northbound traffic is able to exit at exit 140 (Courthouse Road), where travelers can travel east on Route 630 (Courthouse Road/Hospital Center Boulevard) to Route 1 northbound. Motorists can then re-enter I-95 northbound at exit 143 (Aquia/Garrisonville).
Thorough travelers with destinations north of the Fredericksburg and Northern Virginia area may consider using I-95 northbound exit 104 (Carmel Church) in Caroline County to Route 207 eastbound to Route 301 northbound as an alternate route.
