ROUTE 1 REDUCED TO TWO LANES AT BRIDGE OVER SOUTH RIVER IN CAROLINE COUNTY STARTING NEXT WEEK
Construction advancing ahead of schedule to repair and rehabilitate structure in Ladysmith

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Starting next week, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will reduce Route 1 from four travel lanes to two at the bridge over South River in Caroline County as construction advances to repair and rehabilitate the structure.

The bridge is located near Ladysmith Village between Clara Smith Street and Glen Meadows Drive.

The contractor, Bryant Structures, Inc., anticipated the long-term lane closures to go into place early this summer and are ahead of schedule.

On Monday, March 27, Route 1 will be reduced to two travel lanes in the work zone, with one lane open in each direction until July 2024, when the $4 million project is expected to be complete.
