NEW PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK COMPLETED ON ROUTE 17 IN CARROLLTON
Actuated pedestrian crossing at the Eagle Harbor Parkway and Kings Cross intersection will be activated as early as Nov. 9
CARROLLTON– Pedestrians crossing Eagle Harbor Parkway and Kings Cross on Route 17 (Carrollton Boulevard) in Carrollton will be able to cross more safely thanks to new crosswalks and a push-button actuated system recently installed by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). These new pedestrian safety features will be open and activated as early as Nov. 9.
This project also includes a refuge island in the median with a push-button so that pedestrians can cross and wait instead of crossing all lanes of Route 17 at one time. Curb ramps and crosswalk striping was also added.
This safety project was completed ahead of schedule, totaling $212,000, and was a partnership of VDOT and Isle of Wight County. The project began as a SMART SCALE project submitted by Isle of Wight County and was administered by VDOT. Pedestrians are reminded to obey the crosswalk signals, stay within the designated marked walking path and to stay alert for traffic before crossing the street.
