VDOT SEEKS ADDITIONAL PUBLIC INPUT ON FUTURE OF ROUTE 17
Third online survey now available for portion of corridor in Isle of Wight County

ISLE OF WIGHT – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking feedback through an online survey, as part of an Arterial Preservation Plan studying ways to enhance safety, preserve capacity and improve mobility on Route 17 in Suffolk and Isle of Wight County, all without large-scale roadway widening. This is the third and final survey created to gather feedback on recommendations to improve travel conditions on Route 17 and is focused specifically on the portion of Route 17 in Isle of Wight County, from the Suffolk city line to Route 258 (Brewers Neck Boulevard) in the County. Survey respondents will be asked to rate and prioritize proposed improvements to this corridor.

The purpose of the Arterial Preservation Plan is to preserve and enhance Route 17, a critical transportation highway  accommodating the long-distance mobility of people and goods throughout the commonwealth. Ultimately, the study will propose improvements designed to mitigate safety issues, improve traffic operations and alleviate congestion.

Public involvement was first conducted in fall 2020 with an online survey focused on gathering opinions on travel experiences between Isle of Wight County and the city of Suffolk. Responses were evaluated and informed the development of recommendations included as a part of this survey.

The second survey shared earlier this winter collected responses specific to College Drive in the city of Suffolk to the Isle of Wight County line.

The survey is now open for participation and will remain open until March 21, 2022, online at: https://live.metroquestsurvey.com/?u=ku8u8p#!/.

Comments regarding the study can also be submitted in writing by contacting Mr. Jerry Pauley at 7511 Burbage Drive, Suffolk, VA 23435 or at Jerry.Pauley@VDOT.Virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 17 Arterial Preservation Plan Study.” Written comments will be accepted through March 21, 2022.
